چکیده
Taking perceptual experience to consist in a relation of acquaintance with the sensible qualities, I argue that state being acquainted quality is intrinsically form knowledge, and not merely means more familiar kinds such as propositional or dispositional knowledge. We should accept epistemic claim for its explanatory power theoretical usefulness. That knowledge best explains intuitive appeal ‘Edenic’ counterfactuals involving unmediated contact reality (cf. Chalmers, in: Gendler, Hawthorne (eds) Perceptual experience, Oxford University Press, 2006). And, finally, taking be theoretically fruitful: it helps vindicate claims about relationship between concern others we already find outright accept. After developing novel case claim, respond two objections against it: namely, (1) there are no pre-propositional, pre-conceptual cases remain epistemically relevant (Sellars Empiricism philosophy mind, Routledge, 1968, McDowell, Lindgard (ed) John McDowell: Experience, norm, nature, Blackwell, 2008); (2) category appears gerrymandered once add ‘object’ epistemological mix (Farkas, Knowles, Raleigh (eds), Acquaintance: essays, 2019).

I criticize Richard Fumerton’s fallibilist acquaintance theory of noninferential justification.
متن کاملSimilarity and acquaintance: a dilemma
There is an interesting and instructive problem with Richard Fumerton’s acquaintance theory of noninferential justification. Fumerton’s explicit account requires acquaintance with the truth-maker of one’s belief and yet he admits that one can have noninferential justification when one is not acquainted with the truthmaker of one’s belief but instead acquainted with a very similar truth-maker. O...
